Our Mission: Providing financial solutions for every stage of life.
State of the Credit Union
Dear Valued Member,

The month of March marks the official beginning of the spring season. I can't help but think about how this season signifies a period of growth and renewal. Most people associate spring with the blossoming of new flowers (and if you're anywhere in Northeast Florida, yellow pollen coating your vehicles, driveways, and patio furniture!) But I'm thinking of a different kind of renewal -- one that focuses on your opportunity for personal empowerment.

Think about all the ways in which you can empower yourself this season. Perhaps you want to further your education, spend more quality time with your family, or get your financial life in better shape. Maybe you want to do more to contribute to your community’s future. I'm happy to say that in this month's edition of the Community First Insider, we are providing our members with opportunities to do all of those things.

I encourage you to enjoy some upcoming events with your friends and family, whether it's going to an Icemen hockey game, catching the opening Jumbo Shrimp baseball game, or enjoying the Clay County Fair with your children. If you know any teenage students, it's important to teach them the basics of budgeting. Consider registering them for our moveUP Teen Money Experience event happening in Bartram Park this month. Maybe you are a college student who needs to recharge your mind before final exams. Spring Break is the perfect opportunity!

Did you know that Duval County has a first-ballot election taking place on March 19? This is your chance to contribute toward the growth and future of your community. Historically, voter turnout for first-ballot elections in Duval County has been very low, typically not much higher than 30 percent. Regardless of your political beliefs or party affiliation, I strongly encourage you to feel empowered to vote on or before Election Day. Finally, with taxes coming due, now is the time to take control of your finances. We are delighted to announce the return of mobile text alerts, which is a simple feature you can set up in Online or Mobile Banking.

We'll be holding our Annual Meeting at our Corporate Headquarters this month, and as a co-owner of this credit union, I encourage you to attend. Much like we tend to do at the beginning of the year, we'll be celebrating the successes and accomplishments of 2018. After the meeting, however, I look forward to moving into a new season of growth. We've had a tremendous winter, but I hope you'll all join me in embracing this opportunity to "spring forward." I hope this new season gives you even more reasons to Love Where You Bank.

 Local Election

Mar. 19 | Duval County Elections

Did you know that Jacksonville holds unitary elections for its consolidated government? The first ballot election is held with a single ballot for all voters within each electoral district, regardless of party affiliation. As a voter, that means you can vote for any candidate, regardless of the part affiliation on your registration!

The 2019 first unitary election will be held on March 19. During this election, if a candidate receives the majority of votes (50 percent of the votes plus one vote), then the election for the office is decided. If no candidate receives a majority of votes, then a runoff election is held May 14, 2019 between the two candidates who receive the greatest number of votes.

Historically, voter turnout for first-ballot elections in Duval County has been very low, typically not much higher than 30 percent. This means a candidate could win the first ballot election with up to 70 percent of the voter population not represented. Regardless of your political beliefs or party affiliation, we strongly encourage you to vote on or before March 19. Mail in ballots were sent on February 12 and early voting begins on March 4. You can learn more about the elections through the link below.
